Course for members of GS EAM and related research groups
This practical workshop shows how to meaningfully and ethically integrate current AI tools into your everyday research process — from literature search and paper screening to writing, data exploration, and beyond.
You will learn realistic, immediately applicable techniques that can save you dozens of hours per month while maintaining high academic standards and integrity.
Key topics:
1. Fast and effective literature search & paper screening using free AI-powered tools (Semantic Scholar, ResearchRabbit, SciSpace, Google Scholar + LLMs)
2. Quickly summarizing and synthesizing multiple papers
3. Generating strong first drafts and structures for key paper sections (Introduction, Related Work, Methods, Discussion)
4. Paraphrasing, academic rewriting, and improving English style without risking plagiarism
5. Refining research questions, sharpening hypotheses, and generating counter-arguments
6. Exploring qualitative and quantitative data + generating new hypotheses with AI
7. Understanding and explaining code (Python, R, MATLAB, etc.) even if you are not an advanced programmer
8. Simulating peer review: “Find weaknesses in this methods section”
9. Ethical guidelines and transparency: What needs to be declared? (ICMJE recommendations, DFG guidelines, university policies, etc.)
10. A ready-to-use Prompt Library for Researchers – 10–12 proven, reusable templates you can take home and apply right away
The workshop is highly practice-oriented. You will work with real examples and, if desired, apply the techniques directly to your own texts or research projects during the live exercises.
