Course for members of GS EAM and associated RTGs
Date: every second week during winter semester 2026/27, exact dates will be discussed with participants registered by September 20th in an initial meeting (it will be either Monday 14:15-15:45 or Wednesday 08:15-09:45 or Wednesday 12:15-13:45)

During the upcoming winter semester, you will be able to participate in our established English coaching program offered by Paul Gahman from the Language Centre (FAU). The skills and topics covered in both individual and group-based coaching sessions will be customized to your requests and requirements. Therefore, the content will always be a reflection of the scientific English skills that you would like to focus on and that should facilitate your work as researchers. Previous coaching offerings have centered around each of the following topics:
Speaking:
- Public speaking at conferences, symposiums and university events
- Effective presentation skills, including voice, delivery and confidence in speech
- Techniques for speaking spontaneously and when lacking necessary vocabulary
- Practice question and answers sessions for conferences and doctoral defenses
- Reducing accent and targeted spoken interference from mother tongue
- Acquiring more native-like speech patterns through intonation, stress and rhythm, effective pausing and shadowing
Writing:
- Achieving varied sentence structure through expression diversification
- Online and automated tools for assistance with the research and writing process
- Employing objectivity, formality, precision and conciseness in your writing
- Writing to various audiences and for publication purposes
- Identifying and employing written conventions in publications from your field of study
- Techniques for expanding vocabulary in subject-specific areas
Upon registration you will get information about the initial meeting (usually via zoom) and have a vote on the eventual time slot from the selection above. Only one time slot will be offered. To allow for enough time, please place your interest by registering here by September 20th.
